IAWM Cubs-Reds Bus Trip

So Friday I get caught in a rainstorm just as I'm about to board the bus to Cincinnati for the annual IAWM baseball trip. I'm soaking wet as I hop on board and make my way to the back of the bus. As I sit down, the guy in front of me turns around and it's Mike Aslin!

We have a great chat on the bus ride. He's been back in Indiana for about a year. He has an endontics practice in Carmel, where he lives with his wife and three girls. Previously, he was a dentist in the Air Force for several years, which bounced him around from city to city. He'd really like to catch up with some of his Sigma Chi PBs like Burt Largura, Erik Daffon, and Mike Cunningham.

The game was two hours rain delayed, and the Cubs ended up losing 5-4, which we missed because everyone but two alums headed back to the bus at the fifth inning. Thank goodness for DVDs!

Update: Scott Royer

Classmate Scott Royer is especially good at sending me pictures, especially of spots where he and his family go on vacation. Here's the latest he's sent. Yes, Scott, the girls are really growing!

Attached is a picture of the girls on Little Round Top at Gettysburg. Behind them to the left is Devil’s Den and the Slaughter pen. To they right is the Plum Run Valley, or “The Valley of Death.” I took the family and my folks to Gettysburg over spring break on the way to visit Evelyn’s sister in Maryland. My folks and I went back to Gettysburg to spend more time there. I got a two for one: Ev wanted to stop at the Hagerstown outlet mall and ten miles south of it was Antietam. My dad and I spent a couple of hours there.

How did you spend your summer vacation? Share some pictures with us, and we'll post 'em right here.

Making Magic in C'ville

I had to laugh when reading Jim Amidon's latest entry on the Wabash FYI blog. It seems that Crawfordsville's R.R. Donnelley plant may, indeed, be printing out the next, and last, installment of the highly popular Harry Potter series, which is due out on Saturday. Wabash alumnus and ABC News correspondent Dean Reynolds '70 (left) filed a report on strange goings on among the muggles of C'ville, and Amidon is interviewed as part of the report (story video). Reynolds' best line ends the report: "This Hoosier vow of silence is about to lift. Then everyone can pick up where they left off on another topic of conversation: why this town--of all towns--doesn't have a bookstore."

Congratulations, Kip!
